There is so much great architecture all over the world and so many places I would like to go to see it for myself. But as of now, I do not have the means to travel the places my heart desires. However I do not need to worry because the
Internet is able to satisfy my need to see the world and all that is in it with one click. This week I chose to explore the
Internet in search of ten items for this
blog's linkroll. I looked for resources that relate to architecture in many different aspects. The variety of website I chose offer a wide array of information that is helpful in exploring and becoming more involved with the architecture today. There are many websites that focus on architecture and in order to choose the best sources I used the
Webby Awards judging criteria for websites which are: content, structure and navigation,
visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience. I also used the Illinois Math and Science Academy (
IMSA) standards of evaluating blogs. The first items in my
linkroll I would like to talk about are the
organizations I how found
relevant to myself. The first it the American Institute of Architecture Students. This site is well organized and also opens the
possibility for a student like myself to get connected with the professional world of architecture. This
organization is a branch that originates from the American Institute of Architects, which is another item on the
linkroll. Their site connects me with one of the most
prominent organizations in the nation. Another organization is the Association for Women in Architecture and their site is useful to me in that I am a woman pursuing architecture. I really enjoy the graphics of this website but the amount of information it provides me with is a little lacking. The last organization on my list is the Asian American Architects and Engineers Association. This site is well organized but I feel could be more interesting in its design. The next items on my linkroll are websites that provide interesting up to date articles on architecture. The first is Arc Space. The site seems a bit cluttered with advertisements and links but the information they provide is stimulating and exciting. Another website is Architecture Week. The navigation of this site seems a little unclear but the information and images they provide are inspiring. The last site is Architect Online. This site has a lot of information from news to blogs to resources and even products. Even with all this information, the design makes all this information well organized and accessible. The last items on my linkroll are blogs. The first of which is A Daily Dose of Architecture. This site provides interesting update on new architecture and architectural products. There are always great images but the information provided could go more in depth. The next blog, Portland Architecture provides a substantial amount of information but the images could be larger. The last blog in my link roll is Inhabitat. This blog has a wide variety of posts that do not only pertain to architecture but to design as well. The images and organization of this website is well put together without overloading the page. All these sources provide a great resource or information in architecture whether it may be more concrete or more abstract and a good architect is a balance of both.
